Whoa! As we were reading, Micah and I both were amazed at the parallels the story had to the sermon Sunday from Daniel 4. In a nutshell:
* King Nebuchadnezzar / King Derwin (both proud)
*Daniel / Bartholomew (young boys; humble; king's assistance; speaks truth)
*False teachers/prophets & magicians (both kings call for them)
*Daniel speaks truth; King N. refuses and later repents / Bartholomew speaks truth; King Derwin refuses and later repents
We shared some of our Dr. Seuss books with the residents of the Barton Homes (1 & 2). We talked about the seriousness of those in our world who try to persuade us in to believing things other than what the Bible tells us, trying to get us to do something we know isn't right, or trying to trick our minds through magic. We read them scriptures about false prophets and false teachers, from the past and now.
Bartholomew and the Oobleck was a good example for part of this as well as relating with Daniel 4.
