We've read lots of books that take place in the rainforest. So, we decided to make a rainforest mural on the wall. The kids colored and painted some animals, we made scale drawings of the rainforest layers (emergent, canopy, understory and forest floor) and tacked it all onto the wall. We needed Matt for the emergent layer (80-120 feet high; our scale is 1 ft = 10 ft). It's great because now Micah sees tall poles and things and asks "How many of those
need to be stacked on top of each other to be as tall as the emergent layer trees?"
